Road Trip to Berkeley Berkeley Road Trip, 2014

Berkeley Road Trip, April 2014

Marguerite had a normal meeting with the University of California Retirement Association this October in Berkeley, California (the meeting location rotates among the campuses). So George thought it would be a good time to go with Marguerite and visit some friends along the way and have a mini-vacation. We packed up the old Prius and had a 1200 mile trip to Northern California and back.

First Stop Rialto, CA

Our first stop was in Rialto, CA to visit George's 91 year old Aunt Mamie. She has lived here since 1970's with George's Uncle Nuchie who died in 1991. Aunt Mamie's daughter lives nearby so she has family in the area and has a Pug for companionship.

Second Stop San Jose, CA

We then visited George's good friend from Junior High School, John Warner and his wife Barbara and his baby Vette. George and John have gone through life together in Junior High, High School, Junior College, and IBM (John was with IBM for over 30 years, George for about 13).

We also had a reunion lunch with some old SAGE buddies from the 1960s - John Warner, Harold Cook, Chris Pike, Maxie Casey, Lorenzo Falcon, and the Dill. Also shown are some old photos from the 60's.

Next Stop Berkeley, CA

We stayed at the beautiful Berkeley Marina Hilton Hotel. From there we toured Berkeley and San Francisco to include dinner with a mentee of Marguerite's Hong Van at Marguerite's favorite restaurant on Fisherman's Warf, Castagnola's, where she has Chioppino. We took a bus tour and a sea tour of San Francisco Bay. Beautiful clouds rolling in were hard to believe.

Next Stop Los Angeles

In LA we visited Santa Monica Pier (Santa Monica is where we all joined IBM in 1965), Universal Studios Park, and the La Brea Tar Pits. We even stopped in a Tesla Show Room in Santa Monica. A good but exhausting trip.
